Task 3: Design Challenge

The classic ‘Engineering Design Challenge’……….. The Ice Cream Stick Catapult! We have used this task at staff PL, with students across a range of curriculum areas, visitng primary schools and parents on open night. It can be completed quickly, cheaply and nearly all participants experience success to some degree. It is a succinct hands-on way to demonstrate the Engineering Design Process , with an emphasis on group collaboration and sharing of constructions at the end – The competition! 1. Time is perhaps one of the universes’ most defining properties, and the quest for understanding this complex entity has been fundamental to humanities progression. I am fascinated by both the idea of time, humanities drive to measure it and how the rhythm and patterns of its passing are linked to both our biological and cultural evolution.
